Kicking off with the exterior, the new X3 is both longer and wider than the outgoing model. The Bavarian brand’s premium-midsize SUV now measures 4 755 mm in length and 1 920 mm in width, increases of 34 mm and 29 mm, respectively. However, the height has been decreased by 25 mm to enhance the SUV’s “sporty” look.
Adding to the latter, the new X3 is fitted with a fresh version of the company’s signature kidney grille, which now incorporates vertically and diagonally positioned bars. The revised kidneys are flanked by newly designed headlamps, which feature adaptive LED lighting units and incorporate new daytime-running-light signatures. The redesigned rear end features fresh taillamps, which, like the fore items, make use of LED tech. Depending on the model, the X3 sits on 19- to 20-inch alloy wheels.

The revamped interior is equipped with the German marque’s latest dual-screen setup. This arrangement combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument binnacle with a 14.9-inch touchscreen for infotainment. BMW’s new iDrive system, which is based on the firm’s Operating System 9 software, is also present. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring and sat-nav are included in the package.

Locally, the X3 portfolio will be available with the choice of four engine options. The petrol units include the 20 xDrive, which employs a 2.0-litre four-pot producing 153 kW/330 N.m, and the flagship M Performance model, which, now, is badged M50 xDrive. The latter derivative’s 3.0-litre six-cylinder churns out 293 kW and 580 N.m. Moving on to the sole diesel variant, the 20d xDrive’s 2.0-litre, turbo-four oil-burner is endowed with 145 kW and 400 N.m. The final model in the line-up comes in the shape of the 30e xDrive, a plug-in hybrid featuring a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol and electric motor. Combined, this model produces 220 kW and 450 N.m.
